Diverse Universe
In the struggle to be inclusive and fair, our country has taken steps forward but we have yet to reach the point where we truly value our diversity. Even as we celebrate how far we have come, we must acknowledge that we need to do more work to create a fair and inclusive society and address the challenges to equality and inclusion. We need to recognize that America is still not great for everyone. We need to do better. Each of us must learn to recognize and challenge inequality wherever we encounter it.
We offer several workshops to promote conversations and learning about equity. Use this website in whatever ways work for you, but if you are interested in a guided workshop, click the DIY Workshop Guide button.

We need to learn how to talk about identity, sexuality, gender and race. It's important to have conversations about racism, sexism, homophobia/transphobia and other oppressions. We know this can be difficult for some people but it is very necessary if we want to become an accepting and inclusive community.
We undertook this project for our Girl Scout Silver Award because we care deeply about these issues AND Girl Scouts as an organization has taken a stand to support Equality, GLBT+ people, Anti-Racism, and Black Lives Matter. As Girl Scouts, we strive to be "a sister to every Girl Scout" and "make the world a better place." This is our effort at providing opportunities for learning more about gender, sexuality and race because these are important aspects of our identities. Everyone deserves to be seen and accepted for ALL of who they are. The resources here are meant to get the conversations started and increase your confidence in engaging in dialogue about these important topics.

Where Do We Start?
We educate ourselves. It helps if we know and understand important concepts related to diversity and inclusion. Sometimes we use terms like stereotype, prejudice, discrimination, racism, gender identity, etc. without truly knowing what they mean. People may argue about what these mean and never deal with why they matter. With a common language we will better understand how these affect people. We don't always know what we don't know and it's time we change that.
